Antonov An-24 is the most successful soviet short-range airliner. In service since 1964, it replaced old Il-14 and Li-2. An-24 is a two-engine turboprop capable to carry 48 passengers up to 2000 km. Like all other Antonovs, it can operate from unpaved airfields. It started a family of planes, including a cargo version An-26, an aerial photography plane An-30 and a more powerful cargo An-32. Among numerous (43!) modifications of An-24, the most popular one was An-24RV. Antonov An-24RV differs from the basic version (An-24B) mostly by addition of a supplementary jet engine RD-19 located in the right engine nacelle. This engine can add 800kgs thrust at takeoff and can also be used as an APU. In practice, it is however rarely used. Nowadays, An-24RV is still in service in many countries. This add-on for Flight Simulator 2004 contains a highly detailed and fully animated model of the plane. Please read the included documentation to learn about the model's features. The model disposes of a functional virtual cockpit and a fully modelled passenger cabin. One of the most intresting parts of the package is certainly the panel. It is very close to the real one, so close that a newbee would probably be unable to pilot the plane. Another difficulcy for western simmers is that the panel is in cyrillic. No worry there - every gauge and every switch are fully documented in English. The documentation also includes a detailed navigation manual that introduces you to the soviet navigation systems RSBN and NAS. | |
